Filling

At Rotterdam Blending & Filling, no less than 1,000 m2 of the storage and distribution centre is equipped for, among other things, filling liquid (hazardous) chemicals. RBF specializes in filling products into various types of packaging, such as IBCs or drums.

Filling process

For filling liquid (hazardous) chemicals, the tanker or ISO tank is connected from the integrated weighbridge outside to the semi-automatic filling machines inside. Inside, the required packaging, such as IBC or drum, is placed on the infeed conveyor of the filling machines. By working with a smart system, the filling machines fill exactly the right amount in the appropriate packaging. In this way, RBF fully meets its customers’ filling requirements. Although the filling system is automated, an operator will always be present during the filling process to keep a close eye on everything.

During the filling process, the packages are already being prepared for inclusion in the logistics process. Each package is checked and labelled with the product’s characteristics and information and, if applicable, the correct ADR hazard labels.

Filling dangerous goods

RBF staff are trained to work with, fill, handle and store dangerous goods. RBF can fill hazardous liquids from the following classes:

• ADR/IMDG class 3, flammable liquids
• ADR/IMDG class 6.1 packaging group II & III, toxic liquids
• ADR/IMDG class 8 packaging group II & III, liquids (bases)
• ADR/IMDG class 9, environmentally hazardous liquids
• Carcinogenic substances, mutagenic substances and reprotoxic substances (MVP substances excluded)
• Unclassified liquid chemicals

Weighbridges

RBF has four in-house integrated weighbridges. These are deliberately integrated into the filling process so that the driver does not lose any time and all operations can take place in one location. This integration guarantees, especially for hazardous liquids, the safety and quality of the process and the product. Because the tanker or ISO tank is on the weighbridge during filling, the exact required weight can always be loaded and/or unloaded. In addition, the filling system is directly connected to the weighbridge. If the weighbridge indicates a decrease, but the filling system does not indicate an increase, the system automatically stops. Thanks to this integration and various smart systems, RBF can switch quickly and safety, speed and quality remain guaranteed.

Certification

Quality and safety are paramount at RBF. RBF has an environmental license, based on the PGS 15 and the WaBo. In addition, RBF is SQAS-certified and holds the ISO 9001 certificate.
